The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA GULF)
The Royal Institute of British Architects was set up in the UK in 1834 and wasgranted its Royal Charter by King William IV in 1837 "...to advance architecture by demonstrating public benefit and promoting excellence in the profession.”
It is registered in the UK as a chartered body at Companies House and was registered as a charity in the 1960s. It gained its charitable status from its work on educating the public and the profession about architecture. It is not owned by anyone, but is run by a council of trustees.
In 2009 the Gulf Chapter was officially launched at the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi. The American University of Sharjah, under the patronage of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, is the official sponsor for the RIBA Gulf Chapter.
