    Hasim Altan

    Associate Professor in Sustainable Design at the British University in Dubai

    Associate Professor (Reader) in Sustainable Design of the Built Environment in the Faculty of Engineering & IT at the British University in Dubai (BUiD) in conjunction with Cardiff University, Welsh School of Architecture (WSA) where he is an Honorary Lecturer (Fellow). At the same time holding a part-time post, Professor of Sustainable Architecture, at the School of Architecture & Interior Design at Canadian University Dubai (CUD), teaching in Architecture Design Studio at senior level undergraduate programme. Dr. Altan worked as a Research Academic (most recently in the role of Senior Lecturer in Environmental Design) for more than 15 years at the University of Sheffield (UK) School of Architecture where he led the Building Environments Analysis Unit (BEAU) Research Centre and the two long established Postgraduate Taught Masters programmes in Sustainable Architecture (MArch & MSc). He is a Chartered Architect (RIBA) and a Chartered Engineer (CIBSE) with over 15 years of experience in the field of Sustainable Environmental Building Design. Dr. Altan’s research have focused on the Built Environment and Building Energy Research, and he has been working extensively on Energy Efficiency Strategies for both Domestic and Non-domestic Buildings through large research consortiums such as Carbon Reduction in Buildings (CaRB) funded by the UK government (£3.2 million); the BIG Energy Upgrade, a.k.a. Energy Innovation for Deprived Communities (EIDC), partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme (£15 million) and an EU FP7 funded WiFEEB (Wireless Friendly Energy Efficient Buildings), which was a 4-year €2.1 million project investigating both Wireless and Energy Efficiency of Buildings. As well as having supervised 12 successful PhD students, he has published over 180 refereed journal and conference papers in related fields.
