ALIDA BATA, RIBA is an architect, urban designer and design tutor. She is Assistant Professor of Architecture at Herriot Watt University Dubai. Alida has worked internationally with Atkins Global, Skidmore Owings & Merrill, the British Council, and the Aga Khan Development Network. Alida brings 10 years’ experience in complex multi-stakeholder urban and infrastructure projects. Alida completer her Masters in Engineering and was awarded a scholarship to study architecture at the prestigious Architectural Association in London.
She has a special interest in multi-scale environments that drive value and build social capital. Working across national, social and physical boundaries, Alida’s projects take on challenges of limited access, high density, resource competition, and diverse stakeholders. In 2017 Alida won a substantial grant from the British Council recognising her contribution to international best practice in innovation and public realm. She is currently leading a public spaces initiative ‘Nafacity’ across five East African and UK cities
